John McCain may be a hero to a lot of folks, but don’t throw the Foo Fighters in that group.

Foo Fighters on Hiatus

Photo of Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters.I just read the news that the Foo Fighters are going on hiatus. This makes me very sad.

Dave Grohl broke the news to BBC Radio One DJ Chris Moyles. So, what prompted this decision? Apparently it was the band’s two night stand at Wembley Stadium back in July, where they were joined by Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.

Three of the greatest alternative bands ever will honor one of the most legendary bands ever.

The event will be for VH1’s Rock Honors, which will take place on July 12 at the Pauley Pavilion on the UCLA campus in L.A. This will be the third year for Rock Honors, but will be the first to focus on only one band.

Foo Fighters - Baker Street

I’ve been working with some guys recently, laying down some vocals for one of their demos. Turns out I unknowingly lifted the vocal melody from the Glenn Rafferty song “Baker Street”! It’s so weird how music can influence us on a subconscious level. While I re-work the chorus, let’s take a listen to the Foo Fighter’s version from the Color And The Shape recording sessions.

Foo Fighters Already Working On New Music

Foos bassist Nate Mendel informed Billboard that the band is working on some new material during their current tour.

Mendel stated that the band are using time during their sound-checks to mess around with the new tunes, which could be lead to the follow up to last year’s Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace…which I still say is their best album yet.

Dave Grohl and company snagged two Grammys at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards; the band also performed with an orchestra consisting of winners from YouTube’s “My Grammy Moment”, who were conducted by Led Zeppelin bassist John Paul Jones.

The Foos won Best Rock Album for their awesome Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, as well as, Best Hard Rock Performance for “The Pretender”.

You lucky Europeans getting another killer festival.

Foo Fighters Snag Four Grammy Nominations

I’m not a big fan of big awards; but I was pleased to see that the Foo Fighters are getting respect for their latest release, Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (which is just an awesome album, and I do believe that it’s their best).

If you haven’t heard, the Foo Fighters are going to embark on an North American early next year.

What could make their live shows better? How about bringing back guitarist Pat Smear and the addition of Rami Jaffee on keyboards and Jesse Greene on strings. This is going to add so much depth to their live shows; it’s certainly one that you don’t wanna miss.

Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace

The evolution of the Foo Fighters discography has been an interesting one.

The band’s self-titled debut featured only Dave Grohl, in an attempt to establish himself as a new force in the music world. The band’s follow up, The Colour and the Shape became an instant classic. Their third album, There Is Nothing Left To Lose, was an impressive step forward. Then, the band hit a slump.

I did an FYI on the Foos back in July, but there’s always more info to share. Bedsides, the band is going to have a big couple of weeks following the release of Echoes, Silence, Patience, and Grace (which comes out on 9/25, but you can listen to the stream right now!). They’ll also be on the road  this fall and will be on Saturday Night Live on October 13.
