posticonweb20.gif
Thanks to the Igor Branding Blog for pointing to this wonderful video. It pretty much explains in 5 minutes how the web has changed in the past 5 years, in an emotional way that everybody can understand. I can’t wait to show someone who’s new to the web this and see their eyes light up!

Ze Frank on Video Blogging

ze frankIf you haven’t checked him out yet, I suggest visiting his recent post about video blogging.Ze rants breifly about the difference between “old dirty media” and “new” media such as blogging, the main difference being that new media is all about humans making connections with each other as opposed to the “stories” of old media. That must explian why I have stopped watching TV and spend more time online. Powerful to say the least.

He-llo Ms. Dewey! Search Gets the Sexy Makeover

An interesting take on getting people to use search, Ms. Dewey offers the first life-like version of the know-it-all oracles we see all the time in sci-fi movies. She’s kinda cute (and kinda annoying at the same time, kinda like all, ahem, …search engines). It can be slow at times so only try “using” her if you have a fast connection. It’s interesting to see how she can actually react to certain search queries while others she obviously can’t decipher. Scary and sexy at the same time, keep you eyes open for other ideas such as this to surface in the search world.

Time for us to get Greedy

From Andy Beal: An article on rev2.org about GreedTube, a YouTube spinoff that let’s users monetize their videos by sharing 50% of adsense revenue. Very interesting…

SEO for Politicians

From Andy Beal: Reuters has a very VERY interesting article about statements made by Eric Schmit of Google about a future application that would determine the truth about facts made by politicians. This got me thinking about something that’s been on my mind for some time now: when will politicians begin blowing up my phone asking for online marketing consultations? How long before they stop making annoying trash-talking commercials on TV and start putting them on You Tube. I can see it now-”To learn more about how you can support John Smith’s run for the Senate, visit him online at www.myspace.com/johnsmithin08″. Then when the special Google Search feature proves that a statement they made was wrong, they can hire some shady black hat to screw with the Google Algorithm so that the “truth” appears at #1.  Wherever politics goes, corruption always follows. At least SEO’s will still be employed…

Branding 2.0

The Igor blog sent me this article about branding from the Times, which gives them a shou-out, as will I.

Moron?

Mark Cuban discusses the state of online video and has a few things to say about the “morons” who may end up buying YouTube. He does have a point worth checking out.
