99 Ways To Build Your Brand Online

This post is for Tristan, John J, Staci, Sheena & Randy, Jenn, Sean, John, Kaitlin, Toot, Dan, & El Hefe, all new bloggers who are part of the Evolvor Media network. You’ve probably heard most of these 99 tips for branding a website come out of my mouth already, so here’s a refresher course in how to build your brand online.

How to use your blog to write that book someday

When people talk about writing that a book, many do so only jokingly. Few ever have the time, patience, and gusto to actually pick up a pen and start writing. And it’s these people who I would encourage to start blogging, about their hobby, their career, or their passion. A few years later, I’ll be the first to point out that they’ve actually written that book without even thinking about it. Their categories are chapters and they’ve used their posts to sell themselves and their ideas. Next time you need to convince someone about the perks of maintaining a blog, use the “book” reference and maybe they’ll see the bigger picture a little clearer.

Start Your Own YouTube, Pocket Billions

A quick link via Techmeme to VentureBoard, a new social-networking meets venture capitiol site. Now you can create the next YouTube in your garage today and get bought by Google tommarow? I think this benefits VC’s because they’ll have access to start-ups while they’re really young and are willing to sell a lot cheaper than some companies as of late. Think about it: what would YouTube have sold for a year ago?

Baby Boomers and the Web

Okay so everybody and their mom talks about how important the 16-25 “youth” target market is when it comes to the Internet. I hear about this age group so much I wonder if anybody realizes what’s about to happen in the coming years.

Bently says F%$* OFF!?

From adrants: I tend to dip my head in the advertising arena as much as possible, and thought you’d like this little “ad” from Bently. It’s obviously a fake ad, and if it isn’t, then kudos to the individual who came up with it. I think fake viral ads done in this fashion are great forms of free viral adversting, even if it seem detrimental. I hope Bently is laughing at the sheer genius of this ad. Reminds me of discussions I’ve had in the past about beer and cigarette campaigns I’d like to run (converstaions had while drinking beers and smoking cigarettes). Keep an eye out, I may decide to finally throw some together…

Online Presentation: Optimizing Content Pages

From Rand/SEOMoz: Jonathan Mendez has a nice PowerPoint about optimizing your content for your visitors, via an embedded file from Slideshare (which I just LOVE by the way! Great service think YouTube for business!).

Marketing like the coke dealers!

Sorry but I had to take advantage of the name just like they did. From Aimee Evans: Seems that word of mouth marketing for the most-talked about energy drink Cocaine got their buzz from a $40 courier fee to the New York Times. I’m thinking about maybe sending the times a case of my “evolvor” energy drink as well. “It’s, uh, really really bad for you–so bad you should write about it in your newspaper (don’t forget the URL)!”

Branding 2.0

The Igor blog sent me this article about branding from the Times, which gives them a shou-out, as will I.

Rand on Digg and other Social Media

Why is Rand the man? For excellent posts and content, that’s why. Here’s a great look at the art of social media sites.

Thank you! Why music is not a good thing for your website.

Oatmeal from SEOMoz has some good points about putting background music on a site. While I can see there being a time and place for it in certain situations, in general it’s a horrible mistake many businesses decide to make. Unless you’re in the business of pissing off your viewers, stay away from it.
