It’s Halloween, which is always the best time to smash some pumpkins. Here’s a bio on the Smashing Pumpkins.
The Pumpkins first show was on July 8, 1988 at Chicago 21, which featured just Billy Corgan and guitarist James Iha. Bassist D’arcy Wretzky joined next, followed by drummer Jimmy Chamberlin.
FYI: Nine Inch Nails Revisited
Since Trent and company kick off their North American tour next week, July 25 to be exact, let’s bring back the FYI on NIN.
For now enjoy the video for “We’re In This Together”.
FYI: Beck
Since Beck just released Modern Guilt, and celebrated a birthday this week, it only makes sense that we do an FYI on Mr. Hansen.
- Bek David Campbell, aka Beck Hansen, was born on July 8 1970 in Los Angeles, CA.
FYI: The Presidents of the United States of America
Well it’s Independence Day, so it only seems fair that we do an FYI on The Presidents of the United States of America.
- Chris Ballew (vocals, basitar) and Dave Dederer (guitbass) began as a duo under the names The Lo-Fis, The Dynamic Duo and Pure Frosting in 1993.
FYI: Blues Traveler
Since the Jersey natives are on the road this summer, and have a new album coming out sometime this year, then it seems like a perfect opportunity for an FYI on Blues Traveler.
- John Popper (vocals, harmonica) and Brandon Hill (drums) formed a garage band in Princeton, NJ in the mid 80’s called The Establishment, which was later renamed Blues Band.
FYI: Blind Melon
This wonderful and summery weather makes me wanna listen to some Blind Melon. Besides, the band has reunited, released a new album earlier this year and are currently on tour. So, it’s a perfect scenario for and FYI on Blind Melon.
FYI: Weezer
It’s a perfect time to do an FYI on Weezer, since they just released their sixth studio album this past Tuesday (June 3).
- The band was formed by Rivers Cuomo (vocals, guitar), Matt Sharp (bass), Patrick Wilson (drums) and Jason Cropper (guitars) in 1992, supposedly on Valentine’s Day.
FYI: Eddie Vedder
Unfortunately, May is almost over, which means less Pearl Jam. So, let’s end this month with a final FYI about them.
Now, back in September I did an FYI on Pearl Jam’s frontman. But instead of just reposting it, I’ve decided to clean it up and expand it. So, here’s the brand spanking new FYI on Eddie Vedder.
FYI: Mother Love Bone
How could I not do an FYI on Mother Love Bone?
Although, my boy Eric wrote a post about them when I was in Italy back in March, so check that out, Attention all Seattle Grunge & Alt. Rock Fans: Mother Love Bone.
FYI: Mad Season
Let’s do an FYI on Mike McCready’s side project, cause Mad Season was spectacular and it’s a nice, rainy day in May.
- Mike McCready went into rehab during the production of Vitalogy, where he ran into The Walkabouts bassist John Baker Saunders.
- The duo returned to Seattle from Minneapolis in 1994 and teamed up with Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin.
FYI: Green River
Before Mother Love Bone and Pearl Jam, Jeff Ament and Stone Gossard were in a band called Green River. Since Green River is reuniting for Sub Pop’s 20th Anniversary gig and I’m celebrating Pearl Jam this month, it’s a perfect time for an FYI on Green River.
FYI: Pearl Jam Revisited
This was the first FYI that I did here at b5, so since it’s May, it’s time to bring it back.
For now enjoy more FYI with some Misheard Lyrics to some classic Pearl Jam tunes.
FYI: Stone Temple Pilots Discography

- Core went 8x platinum.
- Singles: “Plush”, “Creep”, “Sex Type Thing” and “Wicked Garden”
