Fred Is So Right About “Superdistribution”
A few days ago Fred “A VC” discussed “superdistribution” on his blog. To sum it up, Fred talks about how in a not-to-distant future, everybody and their mother will be compensated through their word-of-mouth marketing. It’s a concept that I have had in my head since day one of my online marketing and advertising awareness. It’s also a concept that I don’t think many really grasp in it’s entirety.
Google to Save You Money on Cell Phone Bills
Via Engadget: Reuters tells us Google CEO Eric Schmidt promises that our cell phone costs will drop dramatically as more advertising money is spent towards the cell phone real estate, as Google has big time plans for it’s AdWords program for mobile search. I’m not sure all of this makes sense, I mean, I still have to pay money for Internet each month. Why would it be different for my cell phone? I’m assuming that Google will partner will service providers and offer them ad revenue in exchange for making Google the default search provider. I’m completely fine with all that, if it’s gonna drive my costs down. Just don’t be storing my conversations with others, Google! (and I know they are thinking about it)
My first taste of Mobile Marketing: Yahoo Mobile
Mobile marketing is something I have not really had the time to check out, and I believe it’s still very early to see how it will pan out. I did however get a little taste today when trying to text message someone from the internet. I tried to use Nextel.com but of course they only let you text to other customers. ended up at Yahoo Mobile, which allowed my to send a message of a few lines (which I needed to do and didn’t feel like trying to type out on my phone). This saved me time. I then sent a test to my phone and within seconds, boom it was there. Because my Yahoo ID is evolvordotcom, I saw before my eyes the marketing potential, even if it’s just within my circle of people. Best of all, it’s a free service. Try it out for yourself.
Mobile Marketing Gains Momentum
From Andy Beal: Click Z reports on mobile trend gowth. This is a topic I’ve kinda shyed away from over the past few years but am now starting to pay close attention to as it begins to further develop. Why? The other day with some freinds on the way to the Kennet Brew Fest we needed some directions. I spent some time trying to use my Nextel i850 but connections were slow and I could not figure out how to get to Google. The fact of the matter is that my eyeballs were on my phone’s screen for about 15 minutes, and we all know that eyeballs=advertising revenue. The potential for this market is HUGE, but I don’t see it really picking up any steam untill a few years from now when mobile internet platforms are updated and are easier to use. It’s interesting to see how marketers will use the mobile space to advertise; it’s going to be a whole different ballgame then marketing on a regular website. The window you’ll have to sell is a lot smaller (as is the screen you’re trying to sell it on!)
