Link Building Through Developing Relationships

I was happy to read an article by Bill Slawski today titled SEM: Make the Right Connections: Build Web site traffic through links.

Not Sold on Solo SEO

Solo SEO, an online project management software program, was released today for all the world to try. They are currently letting customers try the software out with a trial offer, but the software does have a monthly fee of $29.00 a month. I will note that this is an introductory price so expect the software to cost more as new features are added in the future.I must say that it is very hard to sell me on any software that claims to assist those in managing their internet marketing campaigns, simple because there is so much involved and I have yet to see a software program that handles all of them. Solo SEO provides assistance in managing some elements of search engine optimization, link building, & content development in an easy to use interface that very closely resembles the dashboard used by Wordpress. Okay I’m kidding, it’s completely ripped off from Wordpress, but that’s fine because it gives you that familiar feeling, which is probably a good thing for a new software program to do.

Rand Fishkin, Lee Odden, & Todd Malicoat : Geeks Talk Links

I’m hoping this video interview of Rand Fishkin, Lee Odden, Todd Malicoat discussing inbound links and the differences in obtaining them helps those who may be in the dark about the importance of link baiting. Or it will really really confuse the hell out of you.

Text Link Brokers’ “Hosted Marketing Pages”

So I stumbled upon an interesting concept from Text Link Brokers referred to as “Hosted Marketing Pages“. Seems they’ll generate a custom content page that they will place on a related website in their network. The page generated will be high in keyword density and feature links to your site again using keywords in your anchor text. This of course as we all know is good for your search engine rankings (that is, having a web page who’s content is relevant to yours using relevant keywords and relevant anchor text.) I am not one who has ever used a paid link service in the past and am not using an affiliate link in this post. I am just wondering if anybody out there HAS used this and am curious as to any results achieved versus cost. Also, if anyone can point me to a site in the Text Link Broker’s network that uses it, Throw me a link and I’ll post it here.

Google Adsense Section Targeting

I’ve noticed some irrelevant ads on our micro brew and craft beer blog lately (yeah anchor text!), so I’ve decided to talk about Google Adsense Section Targeting. Darren Rose talks about the basics on how to improve AdSense ad relevancy, and you can find what html code helps implement section targeting at the Google AdSense Help Center. On a side note, when blogging, make sure you are using relevant anchor text as I have done here in this post. It’s a karma thing; if you help out others with relevant anchor text, then they’ll help you out as well.

Should links open in a new window?

So last night I was asked whether or not links should open in a new window. The person asking is a web-design major who’s teacher instructed him that, by opening links in new browser windows, you’ll keep the user at your site. Wrong. Here’s a few reasons why.

Google’s Age-Lining Factors

Again from Jim Boykin, a post regarding Google’s Age-Linking Factors. Jim talks about how Google may actually document the date a link was found to a website, thus proving that older sites with old links have more of a chance of high searh engine rankings than a new site with newer links.

Seven Degrees of Link Seperation

From the ‘Roundtable is a discussion (originating at Cre8asite) about degrees of Link Building separation. I think there will be a million opinions on this one and my two cents is this: Use common sense when link building. If you have to think two hard about how two things can be perceived as being related two each other, than don’t try to link those two things in the first place.
