How could I not do an FYI on Mother Love Bone?

Although, my boy Eric wrote a post about them when I was in Italy back in March, so check that out, Attention all Seattle Grunge & Alt. Rock Fans: Mother Love Bone.

  • In 1987, Green River members Stone Gossard (guitar) and Jeff Ament (bass) begin jamming with Malfunkshun members Andrew Wood (vocals) and Regan Hagar (drums).
  • The group was a cover band known as Lords of the Wasteland.
  • In 1988 the band added another Green River member, Bruce Fairweather, and replaced Hagar with Greg Gilmore, who was in Matt Cameron’s old band Skin Yard and 10 Minute Warning with some dude named Duff McKagan .
  • The band changes their name to Mother Love Bone.
  • By early 1989 Mother Love Bone signs a contract with PolyGram.
  • March, 1989 the band releases the 6 track EP Shine.
  • Shine is the first major album release from the new round of Seattle bands.
  • “Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns” makes it’s first appearance on Shine.
  • From September to November of 1989 the band records their first full length album.
  • On March 19, 1990 frontman Andrew Wood dies from an heroin overdose at the age of 24; this was just days before the projected release of Mother Love Bone’s first full length album Apple.
  • Apple is released in July of 1990.
  • Ament and Gossard are approached by Wood’s former roommate Chris Cornell about recording a couple of songs in Wood’s honor.
  • Ament, Gossard and Cornell team up with Matt Cameron and some unknown guitarist Mike McCready to form Temple of the Dog, who record a full album dedicated to Wood; another guy named Eddie Vedder participates as well.
  • September 22, 1992 PolyGram releases Stardog Champion, also known as a self-titled release, which contains tracks from Shine and Apple.
  • In 1993 a home video entitled The Love Bone Earth Affair is released, which contains concert footage, interviews with Ament, Gossard, Wood and the videos for “Stardog Champion” and “Holly Roller”.
  • “Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns” can also be found on the 1992 Singles soundtrack, the 2001 Alternative Compilations and the 2007 Road Mix: Music from the Television Series One Tree Hill, Vol. 3.
  • Pearl Jam sometimes covers “Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thornsin concert.

Honestly, HOW could you not? I think I even stumbled Eric’s post back then. I love MLB. They are so good old scene that it hurts.

Although, I missed the fact that you were in Italy. Now I’m not sure I can visit anymore, because the jealous in me is bad. You’re the second blogger I know who up and went to Italy this year - not fair :(

Yup, you’re both right. MLB is awesome!

Sorry Jen, but I had to go over and visit my brother. Not to rub it in, but Italy is a great place.

Ouch - you “had to go” huh. I’m dying to see the architecture there. It’s so beautiful in pictures.

I’m going to have to marry rich, and make that person take me there. Just kidding. But on a blogger’s salary, it’ll likely be a few years before I can go. But I will. One day.

Yup. I’m not trying to rub it in, but I figured that it was a once in a lifetime chance. So, I ended up going with my grandparents and 3 of my cousins, which sounds weird, but we had a great time. We went and saw my brother in Florence, then met my grandpop’s family in this small town on the Adriatic Sea and ended in Rome. It was indeed beautiful. I have to go back.

You know, you have a good plan. But can you find a rich hippie dude to wisk you away around the world? I kid, I kid, lol. I seriously hope you do though, traveling is a blast.

Well your trip sound cool anyhow. You should post some pics, of course, they wouldn’t be related to music. AND you may be right about the rich hippie deal. Damn hippies and their no money having ways. I’ll have to start dating suits. Oh no! :)
Speaking of hippies, I know you’re not, but you might like this movie http://www.treehuggingfamily.com/memorial-day-movie-anyone/ - have you see this preview? I want to see this movie so bad, but it’s not near me. Or anywhere really. The scenery is amazing. I’ve been looking for a soundtrack (can’t find it).

I put some pics up on MySpace, but I don’t know if you’re on there. I would be kinda disappointed if you sold out and started dating suits, lol.

Come on now, you know I’m like borderline hippie. No, I haven’t seen the trailer for that movie, but it looks great. There’s a great cast in it. I would defiantly check it out. Hopefully they’ll eventually play it somewhere near you.

Sadly I am on MySpace. I don’t really use it though. I actually owed my sis a favor, and her request was I get on there :( Anyhow I found someone who might be you on there and added you as a friend. At least I hope it’s you and not some other random New Jersey person. That would bite. OK no more comments on this post. I’m out. What is this a forum or something?
