I loved seeing that everyone jumped on board and did some fun things for April fool’s today. Perhaps the best was Youtube UK changing all their featured videos to, you guessed it, Rick “Rolled” Astley’s 1987 Hit “Never Gonna Give You Up”.
In case you’ve never been “rick rolled” before, it’s a pretty hilarious internet meme that’s been going on for quite some time.
Basically, people trick each other into clicking links to something, and instead of going to the page they expected, they get this silly video.
Usually there is some sort of build up to the video, like an exclusive photo or news story that is just to good to be true.
Because of the popularity of the joke, Rick is now infamous for his dance moves. Also gotta love those sunglasses.
Just a taste of how something can spread virally for a long time. Now, I’m not sure what Rick thinks about all of this, but a lot of people hear his single every day, whether they like it or not.
I was curious if he had benefited from the extra exposure at all - click here to watch this interview about how it’s boosted his album sales and helped his career.
