extra.jpgA few months ago I recall doing a post about some music industry related blogs. I figured as I get more and more involved in the industry, and the more websites and blogs that I find dealing with the subject matter, I have to let all my readers in on where I’m getting my news from. So I bequeath to you my latest music industry and marketing related blogs that you all should be reading to keep your finger on the pulse.

Before you check these blogs out, make sure you know what RSS is and that you have a RSS reader. If you do not, then you are not taking advantage of what the Internet has to offer, which in this case is keeping you constantly updated as quickly and as efficiently as possible, and that’s what RSS is all about. You can subscribe to MY RSS feed by clicking the big red button in the top right hand corner.

Greg Rollett - Social Media, Music, and Millenials

Greg is an artist from Florida that has also started a music marketing company, with an emphasis on promoting and shooting live performances (which I’m jealous of cause I want to do that!). His blog regularly discussed music marketing and promotion on the ‘Net just like me, so expect a similar vibe. He also frequently comments here as well so I gotta give ‘em a shout-out!

Ariel Publicity - The Official Cyber PR Blog

Ariel Hyatt might be known as the queen of music promotion online, with her unique promotional Cyber PR service. Ariel has been really busy over the past year attending various music related conferences, setting up workshops for artists to attend, and expanding her promotional products and services. With years in the biz, she’s a great resource of promotional information, which is sometimes shared via her Cyber PR blog.

Digital Music News

No need to go into further explanation, Digital Music News is just that - all the latest developments in the digital music scene. Stay on top of what’s going on, check out industry relates events and conferences, get insight from insider blogs, check out industry jobs - a great resource for anyone looking to get a bigger picture of the current digital music scene.

Hypebot - Music. Technology. The New Music Business

A great blog that’s been discussing the emerging digital music industry for some time, and was named one of C-Net/News.com’s Top 100 blogs a few years back. Do yourself a favor and be sure to check out Hypebot for not only the latest news on what’s happening, but also some interesting commentary on the digital music industry in general.

Lefsetz Letter

Speaking of commentary, I gotta give a shout to Bob again. While I hate that his blog is no-comment, I can understand why - he’s one of the most open people who’s out there talking about this huge mess of an industry. I really hope some of the corporate whores at any of the major labels get a chance to check his blog out, ’cause they’d probably learn more about hoe to run their business then they did at any of the classes they took while in college. Keep up the good work Bob, I love every word. Okay not every word, but I READ every damn word.

Music Marketing [dot com]

The title says it all. Google “music marketing” and the site is #1. The site is run by David Hooper, who has been involved in music marketing for over 10 years with his company Kathode Ray Music. His knowledge and experience in the biz are priceless, and he has the street cred to prove it. Check out David’s Wikipedia entry to learn more about him.

Puddlegum Indie Music Journal

Puddlegum has been blowing up for a while now and is making a nice push in the indie music scene. In addition to discussing industry news, gossip, and emerging trends and technologies, Puddlegum constantly introduces us to emerging indie artists. Look for Puddlegum to continue this push and break some new acts into the scene throughout 2008.

I have a few more blogs that I’ve recently discovered, but haven’t yet fully digested - the one’s I have mentioned have continued to develop quality insights and content on a regular basis. I hope that we can continue to add to this list be either sending me an email or dropping your favorite music industry related blogs here in the comments!

    Eric,

Thank you for including me on this list. It is greatly appreciated and unexpected. As an up an coming marketer in the music industry, it is great to be on the forefront of an entirely new medium with which to promote and make a living off of music. The ability to do what you love for a living inspires and motivates me everyday!

Thanks again and thanks for writing such a great blog!

Hi Eric, I too am a fellow music industry enthusiast. My music interests revolve around music production, writing, recording & performing. I came across your blog while researching specifics for my new book on careers in the music industry. I too have a music industry blog that you may find useful to your cause. I was wondering if it would be ok to add some of your posts to my blog. Of course you would be credited as the writer and your article source would absolutely be added as well. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you and keep up the good work.

    Dave

Great list - and fantastic to see Ariel getting the recognition she deserves.

I’d like to invite you to New Music Strategies, where I’m just starting a series of 100 Questions I Always Get Asked About Online Music (answered). I’m also co-writing a site with Ariel and some other people I’m really proud to be associated with over at Music Think Tank which although very new, I hope you’ll find worth a look.

    Cheers for the great site.
