So the Radiohead story just keeps getting better and better. I just logged on to Digg and saw that Pure Buttons, which, as you probably already assumed, makes promotional buttons, has purchased Radiohead’s new album for $1,000.
If you were not aware, Radiohead made quite a statement this week as it released it’s new album, In Rainbows, letting consumers pay whatever they want.
Pure Buttons made the smart move of paying $1,000, knowing that the press they’d get would be priceless.
So the question now is, who’s gonna pony up $10,000? $100,000?

Brilliance, or total waste?
Why put money in the pockets of uber rich bands when the company itself supports small bands? $1,000 is a drop in the bucket for Radiohead, whereas it could do wonders for a small band.
Yeah but one would have heard about it, and that’s the point. Pure Buttons paid the grand because of the media frenzy surrounding Radiohead, and they got some great advertising. SO not a waste.
So now Pure Buttons is well known for blowing their money in the wrong places.
They would have spent that 1k on some other form of advertising. And it wouldn’t have given them that much business.
1 k is NOTHING for an ad budget. It’s a fraction. They spent 1k and got on the front page of Digg and got there name out there in other media and that shit is PRICELESS!
Just getting on the front page of Digg alone is worth thousands of dollars to a company.
A grand well spent!
Pure Buttons does make a great product at a great price. And I’m sure the press will bring them even more business. Just watch out if you’re small and have problems. My company was promised hi-res art to use on signage, charged, never received the art and didn’t receive credit until several months after. Pure Buttons also offered to credit the entire button cost and reprint a new batch at no charge. That would’ve restored my faith in the company… but they have yet to come through on either offer. Again, the product is great and I’m sure if my company was larger, I would’ve received better service.
[…] To the right is what I sent them… I hope it looks cool. PS. I just Googled them and found this story about how they paid $1000 for the new Radiohead CD… (1) probably to get on Radiohead’s […]
Dianne— do not discount yourself. A company should provide decent service to customers big and small.
It’s unfair for Pure not to respect you, your order, or your company.
