I’ve been using Basecamp to manage different campaigns for some time now, and have to say it’s really an awesome way to keep track of everything you are doing.
Basecamp is an online project management tool that let’s you set up “milestones“, or goals that you are trying to achieve. You then use your To-Do lists to figure out all the little steps you’ll need to take in order to achieve your milestones, checking off each one as they are completed.
With Basecamp, which is browser based software (so all you need is an Internet connection), everyone involved in your project can have their own unique login info and authority. You can easily notify all team members with messages, assign to-dos to specific members, upload files for the team to share, write important information on a whiteboard, and more.
If you’re serious about getting a project (or multiple projects) off the ground, I highly recommend this software. There are different versions available to meet your needs, i.e. a stripped down free version to start with and pricier versions as your needs grow.
Trust me, planning is important, and the ease of use here will have you more organized than you can imagine!

Eric,
It is worth mentioning that there are many competing products to basecamp that all have their own spin on this same process. I use one of these competitors myself. This blog post has a good list.
I much prefer Ehuddle.com to Basecamp… Its better and cheaper…
