hospital.jpgIn addition to helping musicians get their act together online, a big part of what I do for them is getting their act together in other ways as well.

Many get into this business for fame and money and glory and all that shit you see on MTV. That’s fine and dandy and understandable.

The thing you need to remember, however, is that with all the cool stuff that comes with the band, you also have the boring stuff. Accounting and lawyers and health insurance.

That’s right, health insurance.

By entering the music biz, you’ve decided to forgo the boring 9-5; with that, you take certain risks, and not being a part of a health insurance plan is one of them.

But you still need it, especially if you’ve got a family (or plan to down the road).

And, at some point, some crazy fan will through something at you on stage (out of love, of course).

Yes, there’s always self medication, but that’s not always the solution. It’s nice to be covered.

Today while stumbling through Ariel Hyatt’s blog, I discovered the Future Of Music Coalition. They have put together a nice resource covering health insurance called HINT. I suggest you check it out!
