So listen up, and listen good. Vertical Horizon kicks major, major ass. But most of the world doesn’t even know why!
verticalhorizon.jpgMost of the world only knows about Vertical horizon from their 1999 album “Everything You Want”.

They were catapulted into mainstream rock stardom after the success of songs like “Everything You Want“, “You’re A God“, and the panty wetter “Grey Sky Morning“. The rest of the album is just as good, if you’re into poppy rock hits. A solid album.

A few years went by, and they released another album, “Go“. Because of problems with their label, they kinda got tossed around and the album did not receive much promo.

But we are not here to talk about those albums. We are here to talk about the three fantastic albums that were released BEFORE them and showcase the bands true colors.

Vertical Horizon is, at it’s core, Matthew Scannel and Keith Kane. They both sing, both play guitar, and both have my respect ( if that’s worth anything).

They started off as an acoustic, folky duo, and released their first album, There and Back Again.

Here is the track listing:

1. Trying to Find Purpose
2. Children’s Lullaby
3. Footprints in the Snow
4. Love’s Light
5. The Mountain Song
6. Prayer for an Innocent Man
7. Lines Upon Your Face
8. Willingly
9. On the Sea
10. Liberty

Then came Running on Ice :

1. Heart in Hand
2. Wash Away
3. Fragments
4. Famous
5. The Man Who Would Be Santa
6. Angel Without Wings
7. Answer Me
8. Life in the City
9. Japan
10. Call it Even
11. Sunrays and Saturdays
12. Candyman
13. Falling Down
14. Goodnight My Friend
15. * Reprise (Hidden Track)

It’s important to add that Carter Beauford of Dave Matthews Band fame played the drums on this album; listen and you’ll hear his signature sound.

VH Then released Live Stages, which perfectly captures the emotion of their live performances.

1. The Man Who Would Be Santa
2. The Ride
3. Falling Down
4. On the Sea
5. Japan
6. It’s Only Me
7. Candyman
8. Fragments
9. The Unchosen One
10. Heart in Hand
11. Wash Away
12. Great Divide

[…] 9. Vertical Horizon That same year another band would show up to provide a few hits to the post-grunge era. Vertical Horizon would pony up the hits “Everything You Want”, “You’re A God”, and “Grey Sky Morning” before disappearing into rock folklore. It should be noted that the band enjoyed critical success even before making it big, and many have never heard Vertical Horizon’s earlier works “There and Back Again” and “Running on Ice”, the latter featuring the drums of Carter Beauford of Dave Matthews Band fame.
