A buddy told me the other day i needed to get some info over here about the video scene, ’cause let’s be real here: video is the future, and will play a big part in any method of online promotion. Luckily for us, Mashable has put together a nice list of online video resources for you to check out, whether it be finding online video editors or places to upload and share them.
When creating videos to promote your music, there’s a lot you’ll have to learn before you’ll be able to churn out some MTV quality videos that look amazing. I wouldn’t even think along those lines if you’re just starting out.
Just get some videos of your band playing some live gigs, make sure the audio sounds good, and do some single videos per song with basic edits. Just get ‘em out there and get people listening. You can spend time making your artsy videos once you know what you are doing.
Update: And don’t forget to optimize your video!

If a band doesn’t have the equipment or know how to shoot a video of them playing. They can get one of their fans to do it for them. Another Idea might even be to run an contest whereby their fans make videos and submit it to the band. The band then could take the best 2-5 splice them together and credit those fans whose video was used. I myself will be writing more about fan based videos soon.
Amen! I’m actually working on this exact kind of contest with a band as we speak!
