I’ve written about the caveats of putting background music on your website before. If you’re a small business, keep that shit away. It’s annoying.
But if you are a musician, you’ve got to have your music available. There’s been a lot of talk about the “free” business model\ being thrown around, and I think they’re on to something.
So how do you do it? How do you create ad revenue from your music?
Right now, there’s not a service that I know of that runs advertising, audio wise, that you can attach to your music. But I do know that someone out there is working on this model, and we’ll see it sooner than you think.
Not that it matters right this minute anyway. It shouldn’t be a concern. What you should be worrying about is building your content - music, video, art, words, etc.
Build it and they will come.
Get a Wordpress site up and running; contact me if you need a hand.
Start blogging about being a musician - talk about anything and everything you can imagine, the trials and tribulations of being in the music biz; just make sure it’s interesting.
Post videos via Youtube of your live performances.
Host your music using iMeem and stream it from your site.
Do this now, build your audience, and the advertising will come. First the listeners, then the concert promoters, then the ad revenue.
