What can we say about Pearl Jam’s basketball loving bass player from Montana?
Jeff Ament is truely a work horse during concerts and is a major songwriter for the band. He wrote the music for Jeremy and Nothingman and wrote the music and lyrics for Pilate, Low Light, Gods’ Dice, Nothing As It Seems, Help Help, Other Side, and Sweet Lew. He also came up with the classic tune Bee Girl.
So Jeff moved to Seattle and met a guy named Stone Gossard. Jeff and Stone were part of Green River during the early and mid 80’s. After the band broke up, they teamed up with singer Andrew Wood and Mother Love Bone was born. They released their only album Apple in 1990; which contained the classic Crown of Thorns and other great songs, such as This Is Shangrila. After Wood’s unfortunate death, Jeff, Stone, newbie Mike McCready and Soundgarden members Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron formed Temple of the Dog and released a tribute album for Wood. Their self-titled album contained the hit Hunger Strike, as well as greats like Call Me A Dog, Reach Down and Say Hello 2 Heaven. Yes, Vedder popped up during this album as well and Pearl Jam would be on it’s way.
Jeff, Stone and Eddie were all in the awesome flick Singles as Matt Dillions band, Citizen Dick. It was during this movie that Jeff came up with the song title Spoonman; yes that would be Soundgarden’s Spoonman.
Jeff and his brother, Barry, own a art production comapany called Ames Brothers who print out Pearl Jam’s tour posters. Speaking of art, Jeff was the one who came up with PJ’s stickman logo.
So, let’s give a hand to Jeff Ament for all of his contributions to Pearl Jam and beyond.
