It’s Already Been Said: 2007 is the Year of Rock Reunions

Every breath you take you hear news about another band reuniting. Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard it all. But, let’s look at the hit and miss reunions of 2007.

The Police.
This is the concert event of the year. Did anyone actually think that these guys would put aside their differences? If you have the cash, you should go to the show. Let’s also not forget that up and coming band, the Fratellis, will be supporting.

Genesis. Do we really need to still hear from Phil Collins? Granted, “In The Air Tonight” is pretty decent, but he ruined Genesis. It would be different if Peter Gabriel was involved, but I think I’ll save money on this show.

The Smashing Pumpkins. Billy Corgan only wants to fill his ego. Without guitarist James Iha and bassiest D’arcy, this tour is not tempting, which right now are some festivals in the States and Europe. It’s just Billy and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, who was kicked out in 1996 and then came back in 1999 and stayed with Billy for the Zwan project. I’ll be interested when the full line up reunites, but I think that is unlikely.

Rage Against The Machine I’m glad that they got back together in time to see the end of Bush’s presidential term. Seriously, why didn’t these guys get back together 7 years ago? Oh well, I guess better late then never. Right now they only have shows at Randell’s Island and some in California, but I’m sure that they’ll announce a full tour which is sure to kick ass.

Chris Cornell. Hey, it’s been eight years since he’s been a solo artist. His spectacular 1999 album Euphoria Morning should be bought be any 90’s rock fan. Cornell’s new album comes out in June and he’s currently touring clubs, but when he comes back later this year, it is a must see show. Check out Chris Cornell’s “Billie Jean” Cover.

Crowded House. “Hey now, hey now,” admit it, you love to sing along to “Don’t Dream It’s Over”.

The Meat Puppets. Meat Puppets II is a must have album and this will be the bands first tour with orginial bassist Cris Kirkwood in 11 years. Should be a good one.

Heaven & Hell.
This is Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio, who replaced Ozzy. They’re supporting a compilation of music from the “Dio Years”, not my cup of tea, but it could be interesting.

RATT. So, they’re getting back together and touring with Poison this summer. Does anyone really care?

Spinal Tap.
Don’t rub eyes and your monitor isn’t dirty, This is Spinal Tap. The lads will be reuniting for the Live Earth concerts on July 7 in London.

The Jesus and Mary Chain. I’m not a huge fan, but they got amazing reviews from their Coachella performance.

Wham! Ugh…

Van Halen. Don’t bet on it.
