Something I’m starting to notice as of late (and a problem I pointed out last year) is certain blogs that are just producing way too much content. That’s right, I said it: too much content.
Now, I probably speak for many in this online marketing biz that spends quite a lot of time reading blogs. Most of us are reading in excess of 150-200 blogs daily. That eats up a lot of time. And when certain rather popular blogs amp up their content production, it becomes even more time consuming.
Here’s the usual thought process. Some blogger, over the course of time, becomes very popular and then is an expert if his field. Then said expert hires guest bloggers to help add even more content to help “grow” his site. The thinking is more content = more visitors = more hype, more clients, more ad revenue.
This makes sense; just don’t go too crazy with it. Some of these bloggers are trying way to hard to become the authority of every aspect of marketing with their blogs and post like 20-30 posts a day! That’s way too much for the daily blog reader. And if I miss a day or two, I’m screwed and way behind on posts and probably won’t read ANY of them at this point.
Another way of looking at it is “watering” down your content. Too much content makes each individual post less important. It’s much more powerful to just concentrate your energy on a single post or two that really stands out and helps me out rather then ten posts about subjects everyone else is talking about.
