I will be moving out of my apartment very soon as I prepare to buy a house. Anytime I move I start packing early. I’m not one who likes having a lot of junk laying around and try my best to get rid of said junk.
One of the hardest things I’ve had to live with over the past few years is the fact that I’ve tried to make my name as an “Internet Marketer.”
Lately I have been snooping around all kinds of online ad networks, whether they be contextual, CPM banner networks, or affiliate networks. While researching the affiliate ad industry, the following products or services often rear their ugly heads into the picture. I refer to these as “crap”, ’cause that’s what they are. If you’re thinking about starting an online business, you may want to reconsider venturing into any if these industries:
Personally, I have only dipped my toes into the sea of affiliate ad networks that seem to exist. Be warned that much of the affiliate landscape is littered with networks that cater to the poker/gambling, online pharmacy, and dating genres; I’d steer clear form getting sucked into adding these to your site, unless of course you’re pathetic enough to build a site around these subjects.
One of the first steps in incorporating advertising into your website or blog is determining the sizes of ad that will appear. You want to make sure that these ads fit properly and don’t overlap or look out of place. A good rule of thumb and a great display of the major ad formats used throughout the industry can be found on the Google Adsense site.
I’m gonna try to make an up and coming internet marketer’s get together being hosted by Lianna Evans on January 25th. Get more info about the get together and come meet some important people in your local marketing community.
If you have a website and are out there blogging, you have something very important on your mind: making money. Some of you may be blogging to promote a product or service, or some of you may be blogging to provide content in the hopes of generating revenue through advertising.
I’ve recently been thinking about how I ended up in the media business. The more I think about it, the more I realize how things affected me at a rather young age. All this thinking has ended up as a new “category” of evolvor.com. I hope by sharing with you all the little moments in my life that have brought me to this point, you can see how I have grown over the years and how I have developed my various skills. Also, I hope you’ll share your own experiences as well, and maybe we’ll find some similarities in our development.
I mentioned Tony Hung yesterday as he is guest blogging this week on Darren Rose’s ProBlogger. Today’s post is about “How to Find News For Your Blog” and is a fantastic article about incorporating news into your own blog, especially for all my blogging virgins. I gotta plug Tony’s own blog as well; it’s already my favorite new blog of the year (not that it’s new but just new to me!) Thanks again Tony for helping the new kids on the block.
I gotta say Darren Rose’s Problogger is a fantastic resource for blogging. He just so happens to be away for a few days and has recruited Tony Hung to guest blog while he is away. His first two posts are excellent reviews of what it takes to get started with your own blog, including “The Rules Behind Creating a Great Blog” and “5 Prerequisites For Blogging Success.” Keep up the good work Tony.
