I was wondering if anyone has seen these absolutely wonderful Firefox TV commercials. They are made by fans and have been airing for some time, though I’ve personally never seen any. I especially enjoy the animated one.
You can view the commercials here at Firefox Flicks
Has anybody else seen a fan-based ad campaign for a web company ?
I think campaigns like this are going to really take off in the very near future. I mean, why spend millions on production when your fans can do it for free? They get the street cred and you get a neat commercial.
With the cheap costs of producing videos, and the ease of sharing with the advent of sites like YouTube, letting your customer fan base shoot commercials is similar to having a “testimonial”, just in a far more powerful way.
The best way to get ‘em motivated is to have a contest. Offer a fantastic Grand Prize for the best video, something that’s really worth their time but still costs you pennies compared to what you could spend with a full production agency. Let your fan base do the voting; get the community involved. You keep the rights and they get credit for the work. Oh, and you get an endless supply of commercials.
Remember, this concept can also apply to audio and print ads. No one’s really doing those, which is a shame.
In a world of consumer generated media & content, it’s only a matter of time before were up to our ears in cga (consumer generated advertisements).
If no one’s ever used that word, I’m taking it as mine!

Do you think this will make my Firefox stocks rise?

If increasing popularity means your “stocks” will rise, then yes, the commercials are going to help do that.
