Personally, I have only dipped my toes into the sea of affiliate ad networks that seem to exist. Be warned that much of the affiliate landscape is littered with networks that cater to the poker/gambling, online pharmacy, and dating genres; I’d steer clear form getting sucked into adding these to your site, unless of course you’re pathetic enough to build a site around these subjects.
Hopefully you’ve carved a nice niche blog about something that is actually interesting and has some real substance to it; try to find the right affiliate network that has companies on board that cater to your site’s content.
Here are some of the affiliate fish swimming around today; again, I’m not sticking up for any of these companies as I am just learning to swim. As I move with the current farther away from shallow waters, I’ll let you know which opportunities have pulled me down and which networks are keeping me afloat.

One thing I forgot to mention is not to be hyped by the numbers. Most affiliate network ads and websites hype their services up but have crap advertisers or push crap products. They’re the ones that promise the most payout money and pictures of piles of cash in their ads. Remember, affiliate ads should be an additional revenue stream, second to banner advertising. Anyone who argues with this statement says so because they are probably pushing an undesirable product. I’ll talk more about, and this is just my opinion, the other “crap” and “undesirable” products in my next post.
