I’ve read a lot of other “predictions” by others in this business about what will happen in ‘07. Here’s a few of my own.
1. For the engines: Google will continue it’s reign. Yahoo will continue to follow. MSN will disappear (in our minds, anyway. It will still be there, but no one will give shit about it.) However, a new engine will become very popular. It may already exist or it may be brand new, but this engine will be VERY popular, especially with a younger crowd.
2. Someone will make a deal with Sony to provide default browser and search functions on the PS3. Or, Sony will continue doing it themselves and slowly become a huge online search/portal because of the popularity of the PS3. Hmmm…maybe Sony will power that new engine I was talking about? Interesting.
3. Apple Ipod sales will continue to slow down as more and more people realize that an Ipod is just an f’ing brand. Companies will wake up (Microsoft has with Zune) and start making better music players based on specific needs for specific audiences. Gone are the days of just listening to our music; we will now begin to interact with it even more, with Mp3 players that can download lyrics and tabs and display them for our musician audience, players that can cut, edit, and remix songs for us, let us mash songs together, and more. I want a player that connects to me music collection which resides on a server somewhere that I pay a small fee for monthly to store. It will be relatively affordable and if it gets stolen, no big deal, my songs are safe somewhere else.

Eric,
For your first prediction (search engine leaders), do you figure that one of the big three will make a serious effort towards offering tag searches? Will they do it themselves or buyout Technorati - or a similar leader in tag searches?
Mitch
Based on the purchasing history of both Yahoo and Google, I’d say they’d probably buy someone out. It might not be Technorati, but maybe a smaller company that offers similar services that could be esaily re-branded and would compete against them.
If anyone bought Technorati, it would be Yahoo. And they’d probably leave it alone (keep the brand).
