How the Internet & Social Media is preserving our freedoms and keeping the power with the people in a cloudy 21st century democracy

I originally sent this article as an entry to Andy Beal’s Search Engine Marketing Contest, but I guess it was a little off-topic and was not published. So I have instead published it here for you to enjoy.

Attention College Students: Blog to Land That Dream Job

Darren Rose points to a Fast Company article today about how blogging can help your career, whether it be making a living from blogging or helping you land that dream job. More and more people are looking towards blogs to find talent in their particular industry, and I encourage every single person in college to start a blog right now in a specific area of study. I’m actually working on a “package” of sorts for college students to get them off and running their own blog, and know it will be very successful here in Newark. More details to follow.

Why I Just Deleted You From My Blog Roll

Once and a while I notce that a blog in my RSS Blogroll will have an unusal amount of posts showing unread. And as always happens, I come to find out that every post that they’ve made from that last 6 months suddenly re-appears in my inbox. Now the question I ask to you is this? Why does this happen? Is it the fault of Mozilla Thunderbird, which is my RSS reader? Or is it the feed provider (Wordpress or Feedburner) that is to blame?Or maybe it’s the blogger, who through some means controls this flooding of posts. Whatever it is, it has driven me bonkers (because I then have to delete all the posts that are “new” even though I’ve already read them!). Because of this, I sometimes am driven to delete a blog entirely from my blogroll. A shame, I know, but my short fuze can only be lit so many times. I just did that to one blogger, and for his sake, I hope it’s just a bug of the program I use; if it’s not, then shame on you said blogger for annoying the shit out of me. I will say that Search Engine Watch got the same fate a few weeks ago for the same reasons. Once a day, it would load the past six months worth of f’ing posts and I went nuts.

Revver Showcases Possible You-Tube Ad Model

revver video bloggingI’d heard of it before but never looked into it, but video blogging site Revver allows users who upload video to monetize their efforts by placing ads at the end of each video. Could this be how Google plans on monetizing the millions of videos uploaded to YouTube? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Ze Frank on Video Blogging

ze frankIf you haven’t checked him out yet, I suggest visiting his recent post about video blogging.Ze rants breifly about the difference between “old dirty media” and “new” media such as blogging, the main difference being that new media is all about humans making connections with each other as opposed to the “stories” of old media. That must explian why I have stopped watching TV and spend more time online. Powerful to say the least.

Wordpress MU v1.0

I’m not quite sure what to make of this yet, Wordpress MU v1.0. Sounds interesting and I’ll look into the possibilities as the week progresses.

Gotta Give Bill a Shout Out

I thought I’d give a shout out to my main man Bill Slawaski and his SEO by the Sea blog, voted one of the top 5 seach marketing blogs out there by Pandia Search Engine News. Bill has helped me become more confident in pursuing a career in this wacky biz and consistently impresses me with his wealth of knowledge. Congrats, dude.

Blogging Scholarship

Andy Beal dropped a link about a Blogging Scholarship offered to current students who blog. While not a lot of money, it still is nice to promote blogging, especially for cash-strapped students who already devote time to blogging. Time=Money.
